Intimacy Post-Injury

Glenna Tinney, (Navy, ret)Dr. April Gerlock
Glenna Tinney, (Navy, ret) and Dr. April Gerlock have been on our shows previously sharing their immense knowledge and speaking candidly on Intimate Partner Violence, trauma history, and overcoming the past to find healing and recovery.

In this show, they share the information from two chapters they co-authored in a new book called “Intimacy Post-Injury – Combat Trauma and Sexual Health”, edited by Elspeth Cameron Ritchie. Our discussion shares examples of trauma history, interpersonal violence, and into restoring intimacy after injury. Included are broader topics of relationship challenges with violence, prior trauma, and the intersection of co-occurring conditions:  PTSD, TBI, depression, and substance abuse.

Overcoming the past is possible, with reclaiming power and healing. Trauma-informed care is available through the VA and civilian providers. For more information: http://www.bwjp.org/resource-center/resource-results/trauma-informed-care-and-military-related-ipv-survivors.html.
